Inquisitive Interactions

“Inquisitive Interactions” is a kettle stitched publication featuring photography taken while observing human activity and interactions in Belle Isle, a nature park in Richmond, VA. The publication highlights the function of the river and green space in the midst of the busy city, as well as the purpose it holds for its visitors. It is divided into three sections, “01. Solitude”, “02. Company”, and “03.Play”, which display experimental typography alongside photographed, candid moments of people within the park. While making multiple trips to Belle Isle, I was able to interact with some of the people I photographed. Anecdotes from these interactions can be found within the type and layouts. This project served as the catalyst for my exploration of human interaction within natural spaces and their environments in my design practice.

In addition to this publication, I created a book holder which seamlessly fit into the Belle Isle environment. The book stand was handmade from found driftwood pieces and was installed in the same spaces I took the photographs within the publication.
